Toyota Will Overtake GM in Global Output This Year

Toyota Motor Corp. will overtake General Motors as the world number 1 in global production.

Toyota will produce 9.42 million vehicles this year. General Motors plans 9.285 million.

General Motors is doing well in Asia and Latin America but not in North America where its large vehicles are feeling the pinch of high gasoline prices.

It will be the first time since Babe Ruth played baseball that another car maker has out produced GM.

2009…Toyota's target of 10.4 million vehicles will be even harder to catch.
