Biodegradable Fishing Tackle
Japanese fishing tackle manufacturers are promoting products made of environmentally friendly materials.
Lures and weights are made of lead. However, when they dissolve they threaten serious damage to the environment.
Fishing lines and lures break can get entangled and do NOT dissolve often times trapping other animals, including birds.
Lay Down by Marukyu Co., a fishing tackle manufacturer in Saitama Prefecture, and the fishing line Field Mate by Toray Fishing Co. in Osaka are making fishing lines and lures that from biodegradable plastic that breaks down completely into
water and carbon dioxide. That would happen to
my fishing lines while I am still waiting for a bite.
"Tokyo-based Japan Fishing Tackle Manufacturers Association has started certifying products that meet its environmental standards, labeling them with an e-mark to indicate their eco-friendliness."
This is a good idea, of course, but I can't help but wonder – is somebody else trying to capitalize on the let's be eco-friendly buzz or is this an example of somebody else who has finally 'seen the light?'
What do you think?
