Yahoo Japan Corp says their group operating profits have jumped 22% to Y59.7 billion ($500 million) over last year thanks to….advertising.

Sales of ads at the Web Portal climbed 17%.

Sales at ad business jumped 27% thanks to display and paid search advertising.

Yahoo Japan's prez says that despite the good numbers, "the advertising market is still weak."

And, what would be strong I wonder?

Business services other than advertising…real estate Web site, etc…sales were up 27%.yahoo.japan.profits.half.jpg

Yahoo Japan's net profit was up 9% despite losing Y3.6 billion to a stock valuation after a decline in the share price of ValueCommerce Co. Yahoo Japan owns 44% of ValueCommerce.

Do you think online advertising is over priced and under performing?
