Yahoo Japan will Launch Internet Portal Service for TVs
Yahoo Japan Co will launch an Internet portal service for TVs sometime before next March, the end of Japan's fiscal year.
Yahoo Japan is working with Sharp Corp in a joint venture to develop technology for large-screen televisions that is compatible with full HD video.
A month ago, acTVila, started offering high definition video-on-demand.
acTVila is backe by:
1. the government
2. Sony Corp
3. Matsushita Electronic Industrial Co.
4. Sharp,
5. Hitachi Ltd.
6. Toshiba
The idea is to make more money off of selling TVs that to make money off the distribution of content.
Yahoo's portal will:
1. initially offer services that provide information via still photos and text
2. later add video distribution
3. finally services that promote interactive participation
Doesn't sound too appealing to me.
How about you?
