Why Study Hard – Elephant Poop is the Answer

In Japan, kyoiku mamas – Education moms look for ways to motivate their kids to study.

Here is a new one.

If you do NOT study, your parents are likely to go to the Utsunomiya Zoo to get charms made out of elephant poop, dung and give it to you.

"What's that on your desk, Taro?"

"That's a bag of elephant poop, Hanako."

"What for?"

"Not sure, but I think my mom and dad are trying to tell me

something."

Zoo workers make the charms by extracting fiber from the dung of a 36-year old Asian elephant.

Seriously, where do people come up with ideas to do this kind of thing?elephant.poop.jpg

The fiber is then sterilized and processed into paper.

Written on them is 'gokaku' = pass.

People are buying the stuff and the zoo is already planning next year's version.

Rhino poop, zebra poop…maybe they can work their way around the calendar.
