She didn't speak Japanese and had never consulted a doctor during her pregnancy further complicating the matter.

But the real reason why Japan's birthrate is declining –

In the time period from 2004-2006, there were 172 cases of women being rejected more than five times by hospitals.

If I were a woman in Japan, I'd think twice about getting pregnant, too.
