When Japanese Americans Succeed – Micah Belew

Posted by Bill Belew on April 28th, 2010 in Japan | Comments Off

It's a different Belew. It's Micah Belew, not Bill Belew.

But I gotta love that last name though.

And I also gotta say, WoW! Great job – The boy excels at academics AND athletics.

Weidert, Belew Named First Team Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

I also happen to know that Micah's mother is Japanese. Micah Yoshiaki is Japanese/American. Indeed, it's not easy for Japanese to come to America where English is a second language. It's not easy for Japanese to adapt to succeed in a second culture. To be sure, they can do it. Micah is an example.

And you gotta love that last name.

I could be jealous, of a Belew suceeding. But I am not in the least. My hat is off to the boy. Oh, and the young lady next to him, too.

IMHO, this is what higher ed is all about.

1. Using your God-given talents, in this case swimming, to get into college/university.

2. Swimming hard and representing your school well = giving the school its money's worth.

3. Making every sincere effort at being the best student possible = getting his money's worth.
