What Recession? Nintendo Expects to Make $6 Billion in Fiscal ’08

Nikkei (subscription) reported that Nintendo Co. is expecting group operating profit to climb 9% to Y530 billion ($6billionish) in the fiscal year ending March 31. It’s 100 billion yen lower than expected but who’s complaining. It is still a record high.

Sales are up 9% to a record 1.82 trillion yen, ($900 billion). Both game consoles and software sold well at the end of the year. “Nintendo said it sold record numbers of both the Wii home system and the DS portable machine in 2008.

“Sales in the U.S. and Europe have remained above year-earlier levels so far this year,” said the president.

A strong yen is eroding the value of overseas sales, however. Poor babies.
