Wal-Mart stores now has a 95.1% stake in the Japanese chain retailer Seiyu.

Japan is a tough market for the giant but Wal-Mart, with deep deep pockets is not giving up none too soon.

Wal-Mart hopes that by taking a larger ownership, up from 50.1%, it can speed up management changes to turn the company around.

Last year, Wal-Mart gave up on Germany and South Korea.

It seems Wal-Mart will remain in Japan for the duration.

Seiyu has 400 stores nationwide.

Wal-Mart has 4,121 stores in the U.S. and 3,000 outside the country.wal-mart.japan.jpg

Wal-Mart's 3Q profits were up 8%, and the company is up 8.8% on the year.

And, Christmas is coming.
