Japan's consumer video game hardware and software market grew by 37.6% in 2006 to more than 625 billion yen. ($5.5 billion).

Hardware sales were up 59.%. Nintendo Co.'s sales to people who previously had no interest in video games made the most.

Software sales also were up – 25.1%.

It is the first time in 10 years that both hardware and software sales grew in the same year.

Nintendo's DS hand-held system software accounted for 62.9% of game software sales.

Now that Nintendo has all that money to work with…we wonder what they are planning next.

What do you think?
