According to statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, following are the top seven destinations of Japan’s automobile and the percentage of overall imports.

7.  South Korea – 3.1%

6.  U.K. – 3.6%

5.  Canada – 3.9%

4.  Taiwan – 4.3%

3.  Thailand – 5.5%

2.  China – 10%

1.  USA – 38.2%

China gets more than 5 times as many car parts by percentage as it does cars from Japan. Does that mean that Chinese drivers keep breaking the same thing? Or does it mean they buy car parts for their own domestic cars?

Taiwan and Thailand seem to be in the same boat. By percentage, they are more dependent on Japan for parts than for automobiles.

The US, on the other hand, seems to be able to produce parts that can be put into Japanese cars.

Still, the US is a valuable market for Japan when it comes to all things automobile related.
