Toyota and Sony Working Together on Robotics

Japan's two biggest technology names – Toyota Motor Corp and Sony Corp have decided to collaborate in robotics.

Sony does not plan to give up its technology on Albo or Qrio but key patents will be sold to Toyota which plans to apply them to a next-generation 'transporter'…. something along the lines of the i-swing perhaps…a kind of motorized baby car for adults.

Sony has sent seven researchers to work in Toyota's partner robot research

unit to help relay the technology to Toyota.

Toyota has a robot guide – TPR-Robina that can dodge obstacles, sign its name, have simple conversations in Japanese and deliver preprogrammed messages in an electronic voice.
