More than half of Japanese say they consider Japan unsafe and insecure and consequently feel anxiety about public safety.

We used to leave our doors unlocked and let the kids play outside. Now, kids of foreigners are prime targets for kidnapping.

Interestingly, Japanese think the number one reason for the rise in crime/decrease in public safety is becaus of 'a rise in crime by foreigners visiting Japan.'

The top three locations where Japanese say they are may be most likely to fall victim to a crime.

1. City streets – (60%) traffic accidents, hit-and-run caused by drunken drivers.

2. Entertainment districts (44.7%)cyberspace.jpg

3. Cyberspace – 40%

Japan used to be safe…still is by the measure of many. But the Japanese don't think so. And much of the blame is placed on the increasing foreign population in the country.

Do 'outsiders' really bring trouble, or is that just the perception?

Are foreigners taking advantage of the once 'safe' Japan?
