It’s interesting whenever you meet people with unusual surnames but if you ever visit where they come from, you can meet tens of more of those people with “unusual” surnames.
My last name is Hikichi (unusual) and I met a family in Hawaii whose surname was same as mine and sure enough, their grandparents came from not too far away from my grandparents still live in Japan.
