Top Five Groups of Foreign Residents in Japan
For the longest time, the largest number of foreigners in Japan were the Koreans, including those who were brought to Japan forcibly when Japan had the Korean peninsula under colonial rule.
The Koreans are no longer number one in number in Japan. The Chinese are.
There are 2,152,973 registered foreign residents in Japan says the Justice Ministry's Immigration Bureau.
The top five countries –
1. China – 606,889 – 28.2%
2. Korea – 593,489 – 27.6%
3. Brazil. There are more Japanese living in Japan than any other country in the world besides Japan.
4. Philippines
5. Peru
Japan's foreign population is up 50% over 10 years ago and makes up about 1.7% of the total population.
Japan realizes that it has two choices when it comes to its future workforce. Let more foreign residents in or keep innovating = building better and better robots.
My bet is Japan will put its energy into robotics first.
