Top 9 Causes of Traffic Deaths in Japan
A friend of mine and I was saw a poster of a stadium with 50,000 people in it. Underneath it said, "This Many People Died in Traffic Accidents Last Year."
My friend asked, "How did they get them all in the stadium at the same time?"
In 2004, 7,084 people in Japan died from traffic accidents.
The top ten reasons
9. Drunk Driving – 2.1%
7. Traffic Zone violation – 4.9%
6. Running into pedestrians – 5.4%
5. Driver error – 8.5%
4. Non-conformity to safety rules – 9%
3. Speeding – 10.0%
2. Inattentive driving – 12%
1. Thoughtless driving – 13.2% (is this different from number 2)
In any event, if you are riding in a car with a Japanese friend – remind them over and over to pay attention. It will save about 3500 lives a year.
