Top 6 Crimes Japanese Commit When Abroad
Japan is famous for its relatively safe society – not Singapore, mind you – but safe.
I came across some interesting statistics that enumerate the top 6 crimes Japanese commit when OUT of Japan.
6. Murder – 5 cases or less than 1% of the total.
5. Customs/exchange – 48 – abt. 3% of the total
4. Fraud – 35 cases or about 6% of the total. – I have been defrauded by a Japanese person working in the US. I chose to work with him over another position that I was offered simply because I thought I could trust him – wrong.
3. Robbery/Theft – 39 cases or about 6% of the total.
2. Drugs – 48 cases – still less than 10% of the total
1. Passport/visa – 161 – abt 30% of the cases – overstaying ( I know several of these), visa fraud (stating support when it is not really there) and so on.
Still, out of the 10,000,000 or so Japanese who travel overseas, there were just 585 cases reported in 2004. It seems to be quite a small percentage overall.
What do you think?
