Top 5 Video Camera Makers by Market Share

Domestic sales of video cameras dropped by 5.7% in 2007 to just 1.34 million units. The blame…failing birthrate. Who are parents going to film I guess?

Last year Japan made a shift to recording high-quality images in a long-time format = no tapes, DVDs. The shift was to make storage on Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). Now, more than half of video cameras sold in Japan use built-in HDDs as a recoding medium. And some companies are selling better than others.

The most popular models – the 60-gigabyte HDR-SR7 and 100GB HDR-SR8 — released by Sony Corp. in June 2007.

The top video camera makers by market share:

1. Sony

2. JVE

3. Matsushita Electric

4. Hiatchi

5. Canon
