Japan has always been obsessed with how they are viewed by others.
I remember once the Japanese Astronaut Mori was interviewed on television in front of an international audience during a space shuttle flight.
At one point, the Japanese announcer was permitted to ask the captain of the shuttle a question.
The question: "What do you think of our astronaut Mori?" 
What’s the captain going to say, he doesn’t pull his weight?
The Japanese want to know what others think of them, when it is good.
Surveys are conducted quite often by Japanese groups to find out what others are saying about them.
Recently Shukan Diamond asked a group of Chinese and Americans, "What do you think of when you hear the words "Made in Japan?"
The American answered:
1. Hybrid cars (34.56%)
2. Flat-screen TVs (28.39%)
3. DVD recorders (17.28%)
4. Mobile phones (17.28%)
The Chinese answered:
1. Flat-screen TVs (56.7%)
2. Hybrid cars (17.52%)
3. Mobile phones (12.37%)
4. DVD recorders (3.09%)

Japan’s economy is well on its way to being post-industrial, so the question can be tricky.
Cars, TVs, etc. are primarily made overseas these days. I do think high-tech when I think of products, though. Maybe Blu-Ray.
On the other hand, things that are made in Japan, but really shouldn’t be come to mind: steel, apples, whale meat (if you count growing and processing as “made in Japan.”)

Well nowadays you can’t tell then made in Japan still is a symbol for quality and yes growing and proccesing is part of made in Japan to me because people still need to grow and learn in Japan.
These people are very smart thats why though lets say that all these people invloved in the computer industry well lets say all these US companies spread out to Japan and seek for making hardware products.
Well Japan now is just like another parts maker that is Japan is like the supplier sender and their Mexico is China that is why when you think of Mexico you think of assembly that is the a product that is assembeld in Mexico is because is cheaper to have the final production their, regarding of Japanese or American parts.
Look at Sony once made in Japan those TVs work great and they still are now Sony’s new flat screen TVs are now made in Mexico with Japanese parts, then look at their other products like some small equipment device thses products are made in China with Japanese parts also, that is when you think of made in Japan you think of products that we enjoy.
Japan is more kmown for electronics than anything else as they have a very beuatiful culture you decide in one time made in Japan use to be cheap and everyrhin made in Japan though then you see why you have a big competition that is why Japan has always succed in anything they make better than some things from the US.
ONe other thing I think of made in Japan is healthcare for everybody that is more made in Japan than made in the USA because they got to go to a doctor and not to pay too much to get well like in the US as if in the US have affordable healthcare then buying a gallon of milk in the USA should cost you twenty dollars and you could go cheap on seeing a doctor that is why Japan is so expensive and you could easily get sick in Japan and go to a doctor by not hurting your wallet

This is fun. I’m kind of interested about the way other citizens think. I myself want to know what they think about my people. I already know that though. Regarding the Japanese i know they are very ingenious and sometimes funny whit their new ideas.

Japan, I think quality build, efficiency, quality products and ethics… their products stand for themselves and don’t have to be lied about to con people into buying it… they also last a lot longer than the warranty period.
china, I think crappy products, worse build quality, environmental rapists, and sneaky backstabbing rip-off artists who do anything to make you think something is better than it is…. chinese means it will probably die before the warranty is up.. if not in the first month
Japan needs to keep assembly in Japan.. even Japanese made products are being ruined by shotty chinese assembly now..
