Taiwan’s Asustek Targets Young Japanese with Inexpensive Notebook

Asutek Computer Inc. spends about 100 million yen on advertising – 70% in print media – computer mags and such, and the rest on the Internet.

Not this year…in an attempt to reach a younger customer, Asustek will:

1. spend 60% on Internet marketing

2. market its 13.3" LCD notebook computer, equipped with

3. Microsoft's office productivity suiteasustek.jpg

4. built in 1.3 megapixel camera

5. Bluetooth short-range wireless communication

The price will be 180,000-210,000 yen and the company hopes to sell about 4,000 of them.

The strategy is an about face from focusing exclusively on expensive high-performance notebook computers.

In any event, I don't want to have to be the saleperson who has to try to sell a foreign made PC to a Japanese person.

What's your favorite PC?
