Sub-Prime Woes Leads Isuzu to Freeze North America Plant Plans

Isuzu Motors Ltd, a Japanese truck maker, says the sub-prime woes in North America are the reason it has put its plans for a new factory in North America on hold.

"Our projections for the U.S. market down the road are not very good, and we can't see sufficient volume" says Isuzu prez.

In April of this year, Isuzu bouth land outside of Birmingham, AL with an eye toward putting an assembly plant there.

Not going to happen, for now.

All of Isuzu's trucks sold in the United States are imported from Japan. Last year, sales were up 27% to 27,000 vehicles. Isuzu wants to double that.

Isuzu in Japan produces fewer than 5,000 trucks each year. Rather the companyisuzu.motors.na.jpg uses a GM plant in WI in an agreement with the US car maker.

Okay, so who gets credit for making the cars after all?
