Sony Will Sell Advanced Chip Operations to Toshiba

Sony is going to sell its advanced chip operations to Toshiba.

Included in the sale will be the "manufacturing business for the "Cell" chip used in Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console and other sophisticated gadgets."

Sony's core electronics sector has been struggling.

The sale will be completed by March, the end of Japan's fiscal year and the price will be about Y100 billion ($858 million).

A third party is likely to be involved, but Sony and Toshiba aren't saying.

I've yet to play on a PlayStation one….so, I reckon it won't matter to me one way or the other.
