Sony sold a quarter of a million of the new version of the PlayStation Portable units in Japan in four days since its launch.

It is almost the same number of Japanese sales of the orginal PSP in the two months through August.

It is cheaper and slimmer and Sony wants to beat Nintendo's hot selling DS Lite.

Sony's PSP can play movies, music and games have been beaten by the DS Lite,

Nintendo's weak beer version of the DS.

In July and August, Sony sold 275K units of the original PSP. In the four days through Sept 23rd, Sony sold 250K units of the new PSP.

The new PSP goes for Y19,800 ($160).

What's $160 x 250,000 =? About $40 million in four days.

Not bad.

Which do you prefer, the PSP or the DS Lite?
