Sony Recalls More Batteries – VAIO Laptops Next

Sony has been recalling laptop batteries like a big dog – Dell, Lenovo, IBM, Apple, Toshiba, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Sharp and now its own VAIO brand.

60,000 batteries went into laptops in Japan and 30,000 went into laptops in China.

Kyodo news estimates the number of batteries recalled to be about 8 million.sony lithium battery.jpg

Sony was the first and now the sorriest to introduce the lithium battery. So far there have been 9 reports of overheating and two reports of people receiving minor burns.

Let’s see, 9 cases in 8,000,000 and 2 cases in 8,000,000. What are the odds?

I don’t know. Perhaps someone ought to check out the skin sensitivity of those two minor burn victims and the AC outlet that recharges the batteries in the other nine.

Sony is doing the right thing to put people first. But, I wonder how many people are putting themselves first, how many companies just want to see Sony take a hit.

It doesn’t smell right to me.

What do you think?
