Sony Cuts in Half PS3 Software Development Fees

Posted by Bill Belew on November 20th, 2007 in Japan | No Comments

Sony has halved what it charges for a software development kit for the PlayStation 3.

Sony needs more games.

The price for a development package from Sony Corp was $10,250 in North America, $8,600 in Japan and $11,250 in Europe.

Sony's PS3 is packed with cutting-edge technology and driven by the powerful Cell chip. But, it doesn't have many games.

And…it's more expensive to create games for the sophisticated machine.

PS2 game developers have bolted ship and are making games for the Wii.

Nintendo is expectin to sell 17.5 million units by the end of the fiscal year, March, 08.

Sony has sold just 5.6 million unites worldwide.

Last week, Japan sales of the PS3 beat the Wii for the first time.

It is likely to take longer, but when all is said and done, Sony will probably get more money out of its PS3 than Nintendo gets out of its Wii.

Albeit…considerably longer.

What do you think?
