Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said Monday that it is lowering the North American price on its PlayStation 3 immediately.

A lot of people who hadn't bought yet are gonna be happy….the 1.36 million some who already bought in to the console are going to be pretty ticked off.

The goal is to be more comparably priced with the high-end version of Microsoft's X-box 360.

Sony's PS3's new price will be $499.

Sony Computer Entertainment will also release a PS3 bundle next month with a larger 80 gigabyte hard-disk drive and a game for $599.

Japanese game players don't get a price

cut.

As of May 31st, 5.6 million Xbox 360s had been sold in North America, half that many Nintendo Wiis and 1.36 million PS3s.

What the PS3 also needs…more video games….

Will you buy a PS3 now that it is cheaper?
