Sony Corporation (ADR)  (Public, NYSE:SNE) will put a cell phone battery factory in Singapore to help meet the global demand for mobile electronic devices.

The plant will be ready for operations this time next year.

By 2010, monthly, the plant will output 8 million units.

The price the entertainment giant will pay is about $100

It will be the first time for Sony to have its batteries built in southeast Asia. And hopefully, the workerbees in Singapore will do a better job than their parent company did in Japan.

About half of all lithium ion batteries of all types are expected to find their way into cell phones, says Sony.

Is that why my little baby phone keeps overheating?
