Sony and Samsung Create a Synergistic Hit – S-LCD

Sony Corp and Japan are all about attention to detail. Samsung Electronics Co. and Korea are all about speed.

When the two companies decided to work together to create 40-inch and 46-inch panels at their "7th generation" production line, they had, well, cultural differences.

S-LCD Corp was created in the city of Asan, about 90 clicks, 55 miles, south of Seoul.

Samsung combined its Bordeaux with Sony’s Bravia brand to create a 40-inch LCD TV.

The two companies, er, one company is pushing hard to have its product available by this Christmas season.

Samsung is predicting a growth in flat panel TVs of 53 percent to 73 million units in 2007 over this year.

Looks like Sony is in good shape with this partner. This is more good news for the company’s somewhat damaged reputation from the recent battery recall fiasco.

What do you think?
