Scientists Call for Closure of Quake-hit Niigata Nuclear Power Plant
Scientists are calling for closure of the quake-hit Niigata nuclear power plant.
No doubt the scientists read in some psycho-babble manual that 'closure' will make everyone feel better.
What boneheads!
The scientists say, "This region is right in the middle of the Uetsu-Shinetsu fold zone, an area of particularly high crustal activity in the
Japan Sea Eastern Margin Mobile Belt and has many active faults."
Perhaps the scientists would like to pay for the relocation.
Oh, no! Let's just shut down nuclear power plants everywhere and save the environment for global warming, too!
There should be an open discussion about the plant, its reaction to the recent earthquake, the problems AND the solutions…one of which MIGHT be shutting down the plant.
However, that (shutting down) does NOT seem to be a viable alternative to me.
Isn't there a way to make nuclear power work AND such that people will trust it and the operators?
