Kyocera has offered $597 millionish to Sanyo Electric for its mobile phone operations.

Last year Goldman Sachs and other investors had to rescue Sanyo with a $2.56 billion bailout.

Sanyo's former president was bounced.

The company's small mobile phone retail business was sold.

Sanyo Electric Credit Co. was scrapped.

It's semiconductor business is in the final stages of being auctioned as well.sanyo.electric.kyocera.jpg

Sanyo may net a profit this fiscal year for the first time in four years, largely due to the selling off of its assets.

In the future, the TV and household appliance maker sees its solar and battery operations as its core business.

Kyocera, a closer partner of KDDI Corp. will have no problem coming up with the cash needed to make the purchase.

Even Japanese companies need help sometimes.

Who's your favorite appliance maker in Japan?
