Road Deaths Lowest in 50 Years

The number of road deaths in Japan last year was just 5,743, the 7th year in a row of decline and the first time in 54 years the number was under 6,000.

One big reason according to Japan's National Police Agency (NPA) – toughening of DUI penalties.

Another reason – campaigns to promote wearing of seatbelts.traffic.accident.japan.jpg

Injuries, however, increased for the 9th

consecutive year to 1.034 million.

Accidents were down by 53,845.

Aichi had the most fatalities and Tottori had the least. Aichi is home to Toyota and the other carmakers. Nobody lives in Tottori.

Japan had 6,880 accidents caused by drunk drivers in the first 11 months, down 3,902 from the previous year.

One DUI and your license is gone in my book.

Here's a hundred plus reasons why.
