Question #7. What kind of things should I take?

We hired a very close friend of mine that I had known from high school. She and her husband were newlyweds and teaching English in Japan was how they planned to get to know one another.

M absolutely insisted that she bring her 'hall tree.' I didn't know what it was. M was my friend and I trusted her.

Turns out that a hall tree is a tall – 7-8' grandfather tree looking thing without the clock. Shoes go in the bottom and there is a tall mirror that is inset to the backjapan-map.esl.gif panel.

It has little hangars on it for coats and such when visitors come.

Uh….three years later when they returned home, the 'tree' was left behind.

What might seem so important to someone, a must have, at home isn't needed in Japan.

Mostly what you need is your clothes and…well, that's about it. Japan has everything else.

If you can't fit it into your baggage allowance for international flights, you do NOT need it.

Everything that is needed to live in Japan, Japan has it. That's where the Japanese get it, right?
