Question # 61 -Are there any incentives to work overtime/extra when teaching ESL in Japan?

As I mentioned in number 59, I don’t know of any language schools that offer overtime pay. The answer would be no.

I have on occasion had teachers at my school ask to do more than was called for in their contract and I paid them more to do it. I don’t consider that overtime work though.

Generally speaking, an ESL school owner wants their teachers to come, give quality instruction for the assigned number of classes,

then leave and get recharged.esl.japan-thumb.gif

25 quality hours or so, plus preparation and commute time, in front of students will drain even the best and most energetic of students.

Not too many people want to do more.
