Question # 45 – Are foreign TV programs available in English when teaching ESL in Japan?

Once again this question shows my prejudice toward English, my native language.

TV programs are often, usually dubbed into Japanese. But, when I was there, and I am assuming it’s still available, you could buy a box, sometimes installed in the TV set that would allow the viewer to watch the program in the native language of production.

I remember when I first got the device, I thought it would translate EVERY

program into English. Boy, was I disappointed.esl.japan.gif

But, then, I have never been much of a TV watcher…still am not.

As I mentioned in the previous post…who has time? When there was something good on, I was most always working/teaching….when the students were available.

What programs do you watch regularly in Japan?
