Question # 42 – Can I watch American/Foreign Movies when teaching ESL in Japan?

Yep. Most of the big hits from Hollywood in America eventually make their way to Japan.

In fact, Sony’s Entertainment Group has been known to show some of their productions in Japan BEFORE showing them in the States.

Spiderman 3 comes to mind.

One of the neat things about going to the theater in Japan is that the Japanese are used to watching movies that have subtitles so the theaters often get the

best of other countries as well.esl.japan.gif

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL is an Italian film that was amazing. I saw movies in Japan I would NEVER watch in the States because, “If it ain’t in English I ain’t watching it’ mentality or lack of a mentality. I grew up hating dubbed movies. I don’t mind now…and I am a better person for it.

However…if you are going to watch a foreign film and the home country is not a language you speak, get ready to read Japanese…fast.

They won’t wait for you.

The cost – Y1500ish, depending on the time of day.
