Question # 39 - Can I buy American/foreign food when teaching ESL in Japan?
It depends on what you are looking for, of course. The question might better read can I buy food from other countries while in Japan?
Uh…depends on what you are looking for.
Generally speaking…it’s not always easy, unless the Japanese have acquired a taste for it…curry from India…that sort of thing.
My take is …why would you want to have food from your home country when
there is so much good food and new tastes to acquire while in Japan?
Seriously. I NEVER went hungry. I do admit it took me a while to acquire some tastes…curry for instance…couldn’t get passed the color.
But, now I love the stuff. Teriyaki…yakiniku sauce….![]()
Give me the option of where to eat back here in the States and I will head for a Japanese restaurant.
We have one in our city just outside of San Jose (I know the way) that is staffed and served by Japanese. And the food…um…good.
And me? I grew up in the Mid West, a meat and potatoes man. The Japanese diet cured me of that.
What’s your must have from home that you cannot find in Japan?
