PM Abe Gets Largest Winter Bonus
The Japanese get a monthly salary. That is they get paid once a month. Additionally, Japanese workers receive two bonuses – when business warrants it. Sometimes the bonuses are big and sometimes they are not.
This year, Prime Minister Abe and Supreme Court Chief Justice Shimada received the biggest bonuses of government workers.
Each received 5,820,000 yen ($50,400). That's a $50,000 bonus! In addition to his
regular salary.
PM Abe says he will give back $13,000 of his bonus to keep a promise he made to do so.
Yea, if my salary was large enough that I could get a $50k bonus, I could probably afford to return $13k, too.
Japanese Diet members received 3.3 million ($29K) and central government workers with regular admin duties all received 683,000 ($6,000) bonuses.
What would you do with a $6,000 bonus right now?
