Nuclear Reactor Operators Cover Up Emergency Shutdown

Tokyo Electric Power Co. covered up an emergency shutdown of one of its nuclear reactors in 1992.

The nuclear reactor is located in Kashiwazaki-Kariwa in Niigata. I know the place well. I used to visit it weekly while they were building the place to teach the staff English.

Employees tried to shut the plant down for a regular government checkup later in the day but the reactor, well, reacted differently.

Consequently, the operators scrammed to shut it down.

In a survey of veterans by TEPCO, the event came to light and was confirmed by operation records.

This…this is why people don't trust nuclear reactors. It is NOT because nuclear power is unsafe, it is because the people who run them canNOT be trusted. Cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

In addition to this coverup, there have been 199 cases of falsifications (lies) that have been discovered during government checkups.

I believe nuclear power is indeed a viable source of energy…providing people who can be trusted run the things.

Why do you think nuclear power operators are so proned to lie about problems they are having?
