Nomura Research Institute Reports Jump in Trust and Use of Internet by Japanese
The Nomura Research Institute conducts a survey on Japanese consumer attitudes every three years and has done so since 1997. Each time the institute aims to get responses from 10,000 users. This past July-August replies came in from 10,071.
In the two previous surverys, 4.8% of people bought something online in 1997. 13.8% had shopped online by 2000. The percentage now stands at 23.3%. This is no small feat considering the finicky Japanese shopper.
Another interesting figure is the trust factor…41.8% of 15-19 year olds say they trust information on the Net. The trust figure decreases gradually to 19.4% for people in their 60′s but still UP in every age group from the previous surveys.
Clear enough is that Japan is using and trusting the Net more and more. Is there a market there? You betcha.
