New Government May Change Japan’s Support for US Activities in Iraq & Afghanistan
Japan has a new controlling government.
For right or for wrong, perhaps mostly for the need to be different the Democratic Party of Japan wants to define itself….and that may mean NOT supporting Washington by allow Japanese Self Defense Forces to help out in Iraq and Afghanistand.
Japan is the United States most staunch supporter in Asia…but maybe not for much longer.
PM's Abe present buddyship with Washington is not popular with the Japanese
public who think Japan is violating their pacifist constitution….but Abe is staying the course.
It is similar to another political leader who is not
popular but still stays the course.
The United States may be worried about a change in position of Japan, shorter committments, quicker withdrawals, smaller or no forces if for no other reason than just because the DPJ wants to be different.
Now President Bush has a Democratic Party to worry about on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
Do you think Japan should not be involved with the US in Iraq and Afghanistan?
