NEC, IBM, HP Offer Power-Saving Solutions

The electricity needed to run corporate computer systems in Japan has been increasing by more than 10% annually.

HP Japan has launched a service which uses special software to control automatically the capacity utilization of servers depending on how much data needs to be processed.

The server/software package is rent free, depending on how much electricity is saved.

NEC Corp preinstalls software to monitor power usage in all its memory storageibm.hp.japan.jpg devices. Power consumption can be reduced by as much as 30%.

IBM Japan Ltd has a service that allows clients to access up to 1,000 servers each at parent IBM Corp's data center via the Internet. The service is aimed at corporate clients that use a large number of services for a short period of time – automakers designing new cars and drug makers developing new medications.

Savings for IBM customers can amount to as much as 80%.
