Nagasaki Atomic Bombing Commemorated

Japanese gathered to commemorate the atomic bombing of Nagasaki at the Peace Statue in Nagasaki's Peace Park.

The statue points skyward – that's where it came from.

The statue points to its left – that's where it landed.

Thousands of children and elderly gathered to remember what happened 62 years ago at 11:02am (0202GMT). The aim was to stop the war in a hurry. It

worked.

I can think of another war that needs stopping now….maybe, just maybe… 

When I visited Nagasaki some 25 years ago, I never got the impression that the Japanese were bitter or angry with Americans. Rather, the Japanese just wished it would never happen again…an atomic bombing.

Maybe that's why the bomb isn't being used today.
