Around 6,500 people, including a former prime minister attended the funeral of the late Ando Momofuku, inventor of the instant noodle.

He was 96 years old when he died on Jan. 5th.

Along with the 6,500 people who paid respects, a Japanese astronaut training in the United States remembered a special treat prepared for him that he ate on Discovery Space Shuttle mission.

Noodles everywhere…even in space.cup.noodle.gif

When Japanese have funerals, there is about a two hour period of time after the Buddhist priest finishes his chants/prayers when the body of the deceased is take to a creamatorium.

While the body is being burned, the funeral attendees, usually immediate family and close friends, enjoy a meal and recall the life of the departed.

It can be quite elaborate with plenty of sake to go around…or in this case, maybe just a cup of Nissin Instant Noodles.

I never cared for them that much myself.

Do you like instant noodles?
