Miss Universe, Riyo Mori, Unloved for Not Looking Japanese Enough

But, the Japanese are failing to fall in love with her because she does NOT look Japanese enough to please them. In other words…she is NOT cute.
Old farts are expressing annoyance that Riyo Mori wore a geisha outfit as the National Costume instead of busting out in a bikini.
Japanese men want cute. Westerners might think it a tad ‘weird’ but who are we to say what is appealing to whom and why. Japanese men also read comic books into their middle age. They know what they like and that’s it.
Riyo Mori doesn’t fit the mold…and everyone knows what happens to the nail that sticks out. SMACK!
Mori’s success is attributed to Frenchwoman Ines Ligron, the overall producer of Miss Universe Japan since 1998.
With no regard for cuteness, and plenty of respect for traditional Japanese values of humility, earnestness and proper manner, Ligron has made a difference in the way Japanese women are seen on the global stage.
The Frenchwoman has produced three top five finishes since 1998, including Mori’s win and Kurara Chibana’s runner-up finish last year.
But…Japanese men prefer the likes of Yuri Ebihara and Moe Oshikiri.
