Microsoft Teams Up with Humanoid Maker Tmsuk
Microsoft Corp is tieing up with Japanese humanoid maker Tmsuk in hopes of setting the standard in the development of cutting-edge robots.
Having every robot operate using an MS OS would be a start, no doubt.
"We aim to commonise robotics technology by recommending researchers use our Microsoft Robotics Studio," said Microsoft Japan.
Tmsuk President Yoichi Takamoto said: "We've developed various sorts of robots with different partners, but right now we cannot adopt one technology used in robot A to robot B.
"If this Microsoft software comes to be used by many developers, then
technological advances in robotics will dramatically accelerate," he said.
Tmsuk has developed a wide variety of robots for practical use in cooperation with universities in Japan.
One example is a disaster relief robot that can clear rubble after an earthquake.
Tmsuk's network of researchers in universities also made the company appealing to Microsoft.
Japanese companies are focused in humanoids, seeing advanced robots as a future resource to meet the nations workforce requirements left lacking because of a decreasing population.
Japan and Microsoft make a good match.
