Market Share: Top Three Video Game Consoles in Japan

Domestic sales of home and portable video game units in Japan jumped 45.1% last year to 14.54 million units. That's more than one in ten people in Japan bought a new game to play with ….most of them from Nintendo.

Handheld devices made up 77.3% of the market.

Nintendo's smash hit Nintendo DS portable made up 60.9% of the overall market.

In just one month, Nintendo's Wii home console captured 6.8% of the market.
