Regular and part-time staff are getting different wages

Hourly wages of regular employees and part-timers doing the same work, differ at more than 80 percent of businesses Japan.

Analysis of the October 2006 Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare survey data showed the ratio of businesses with wage disparities was 81.7 percent, up 10.4 percentage points from the previous survey five years earlier.

The survey of about 6,600 business establishments and 13,400 part-timers also showed more than 60 percent of part-timers are dissatisfied with their work and companies.

Some 71% of companies using part-timers because the pay is lower.

With the many 'freeters' working about Japan, this is indeed no small matter.
