Japan’s Ten UNESCO World Heritage Sites

UNESCO has designated more than 800 sites as World Heritages in hopes of them remaining for future generations.

Japan has 10 sites on the Cultural Heritage list.

Looking for a reason to get out of Tokyo or Osaka and see something? Try these:

1.  Buddhist Monuments in Koryuji Are of Nara.

2.  Himeji-jo in Hyogo

3.  Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu.)

4.  Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama in Gifu and Toyama,japan.regions.gif respectively.

5.  Itsukushima Shinto Shrine in Hiroshima

6.  Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome) in Hiroshima

7.  Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara in Nara

8.  Shrines and temples of Nikko in Tochigi

9.  Gusuku Sites of the Kingdom of Ryuku in Okinawa

10. Sacred sites and pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range of Nara, Wakayama and Mie).

There's plenty to see in Japan…but be sure you have plenty of room on your credit card. It's not cheap getting and hanging around in Japan.

Where have you been in Japan?

I have seen #1, 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8.
