Japan’s PM Abe Asking For Trouble

Japan’s new PM Abe Shinzo is looking for trouble.

He announced four goals for Japan while he is in charge.

1. Make Japan a country that shows leadership and that is respected and loved.

2. Make Japan a country that shows its identity to the world.

3. Improve relations with China and South Korea.

4. Revise Japan’s constitution to allow for a full-fledged military.

There is nothing wrong with Japan wanting to take leadership. Problem is, they will have a tough time doing so wanting to do everything by consensus.

Japan already has an identity – quality and dependability.

China and South Korean relations do need improvement. But as long as PM Abe visits the Yasukuni Shrine or refrains from coming clean on his intentions, this is a long shot.

If Japan changes its constitution to change the constitution of its military, there can be nothing good come of it. Japan has a militaristic past. It is still not forgotten and no matter the intent for changing their military from self-defense to full-fledged, nobody is about to understand, except maybe the US, who would like to have less responsibility in the region.

What do you think?
