Japan’s Number of Big Earners Decreases

The number of people in Japan who are considered ‘big earners’ decreased during Japan’s decade plus recession.

A big earner in Japan is someone who makes more than 10 million yen. I’ll call that about $100,000 but it’s acutally a little less.

The number of big earners in Japan peaked in 1993 with about 130,000 people making more than $100K with the 100th person from the top in the list made just over $3.1 million.

The number 100 earner was higher in 1992 at about $3.25 million.

2003 was Japan’s worst year for high earners with ONLY about 75,000 people going over the $100K mark and number 100 taking in $2.9 million.

The lowest income for number 100 was in 1999 at about $2.5 million.

Since 2004, however, Japan is on a rebound with 76,000 going over $100K and number 100 taking in $3.19 million.

With Japan’s economy on the rebound, surely there will be more and more $100K rice earners.

What do you think?

And then, Japan might catch up with the number of $100K earners in Silicon Valley.
